Welcome to the Happy Dachshund Music list of the 100 Best Rock Songs.

Here are the rules---the list is not in order. YOu provide the artist, and the title of the song. You may also include a small comment about why its one of the 100 best. To keep it manageable, this list is limited to rock only. No blues, no country, no jazz, no hip hop, only rock. Anyone can edit, so if you disagree with a selection, edit it, but be prepared to explain why.

Songs don't have to have historical significance, nor do the bands. The songs just have to be the sort of thing you turn up when you hear them on the radio. Sign in to edit the list. I've included a sample, to get you started

1. Whole lotta Rosie - AC/DC- If You Want Blood

2. Ring of Fire--Johnny Cash

3. Story of My Life--Social Distortion

4. Spirit in the Sky--Norman Greenbaum

5. C'mon C'mon--Von Bondies

6. Thunderstruck--AC/DC

7. Panama-- Van Halen

8. LA Woman--The Doors

9. Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen - How can you not have either this song or Born to Run

10. Free Bird - Lynrd Skynrd - You know you all sing this song every time you hear it even thought it last so damn long.

11. Come Sail Away - Styx - I know it's kind of gay, but if Cartman likes it, so do I.

12. Stairway to Heaven - Lez Zeppelin - again, a classic that can't be denied.

13. Satisfaction - the Rolling Stones

14. You Really Got Me - the Kinks

15. Hound Dog - Elvis

16. Blue Suede Shoes - Carl Perkins and/or Elvis

17. Johnny B Goode - Chuck Berry

18. Jailhouse Rock - Elvis

19. Revolution - the Beatles

20. Get Back - the Beatles

21. All Along the Watch Tower - Jimi Hendrix

22. Take Me Home, Country Road - John Denver - just checking to see if you were still reading. HEYYYY--get this crap off the list. I'm going to leave it until we get up to 100, then it may be bumped in favor of a song that is actually good

23. Bang Your Head - Quiet Riot

24. Welcome to the Jungle - Guns and Roses

25. Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf - another one you have to turn up, if for nothing other than the chorus

26. House Of The Rising Sun - Animals - we've got to have at least one song about whores

27. Should I Stay or Should I Go Now - the Clash - had to add this one after listening to danno's cd and remembering how much I used to play this song in college. I think Tammy and Hannah are now deaf after riding in the car with me.

28. Jump - Van Halen - There are probably better Van Halen songs for this list, but this was the first Van Halen song I truly loved.

29. Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen - I would have said by Dwight Yoakum, but Danno has already chastised someone for adding a Johnny Cash song.

30. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen - Again, who can listen to this song without cranking it? Wayne's World, anyone?

31. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan - Another one that I have to crank up and scream at the top of my lungs (which oddly enough, still sounds better than Dylan's singing.)

32. Black Dog - Led Zeppelin - Hey, hey momma, aren't we going to add this song?

33. American Girl - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - I wish I'd lost my virginity to this song.

34. Breakdown - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - I love the version of this where Petty has the audience sing most of the chorus.

35. Won't Get Fooled Again - the Who - Will the democrats be using this song at election time?

36. Baba O'Reilly - the Who

37. My Generation - the Who - Why don't you all f-f-f-f-f-f-f-fade away?

38. Highway to Hell - AC/DC - I ought to move this one next to Stairway to Heaven, but I'm too lazy to change all the numbers or to play around with the number formatting on this site.

39. Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet (a newer one, but this song REALLY rocks)

40. Walk This Way - Aerosmith and Run DMC - which I think surpassed the original of this song

41. Ballroom Blitz - Sweet - This song makes me want to be in a rock and roll band.

42. Hurt - Nine Inch Nails (but I like the Johnny Cash version better) - such pain, ain't rock grand?

43. Train in Vain - the Clash - Why didn't I think of this earlier?

44. Come on Eileen - Had to get some more 80s in here, and this song takes my breath away like a roller coaster when I hear the crescendo right before the chorus.

45. Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves - Hard to believe the band hates this song and considers it the song that broke them up. I love it.

46. Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis - Just thought of this one in responding to Joel's e-mail about Johnny Cash.

47. Another Brick in the Wall - Pink Floyd - Gotta have something from The Wall, the greatest/oddest rock movie ever.

48. Brown-eyed Girl - Van Morrison - play it and don't sing along--go ahead, I dare ya--that is what I thought

49. Bad Moon Rising - Credence Clearwater Revival--not only a great song, but it always reminds me of watching American Werewolf in London at the Rivoli, then being scared to walk back to the car after the midnight movie

50. Nothing Hurts Like Your Mouth - Bush--that may not be the right title, but I really like that song. Nothing like a little angst

51. Losing My Religion - REM - Another one you can't help but sing along too. I wish I knew what this song really meant.

52. Everybody Hurts - REM - Not rockin' so much, but a great ballad. This is also one of the simplest, saddest videos I've ever seen.

53. Jeremy - Pearl Jam - or maybe this is the saddest video ever

54. Motherless Child - Eric Clapton - Blues, rock, call it what you will, this is a great song.

55. Paper and Fire - John Mellencamp - We have to have at least one Mellencamp song on here. This has always been one of my favorites.

56. Walk on the Wild Side - Lou Reed - doot da doot, doot

57. Every Picture Tells a Story - Rod Stewart - his body stunk, but he kept his funk!

58. Riding the Storm Out-- REO Speedwagon

59.
